Jay Cohen Remembers Michelle Trachtenberg in Heartfelt Tribute

Jay Cohen, the boyfriend of late actress Michelle Trachtenberg, has publicly expressed his grief following her passing at the age of 39. Trachtenberg, best known for her role as Georgina Sparks in the acclaimed series Gossip Girl, died in February 2024 due to complications from diabetes. Cohen took to his private Instagram account to share his appreciation for the support he has received during this difficult time.

In his emotional post, Cohen wrote, “I am so grateful to all of you who are in my life sharing our common joys, helping me with tragedies and healing from pain and grief.” He indicated that he plans to share more about Trachtenberg with her fans “one day soon,” adding, “Michelle was loved by so many.”

Outpouring of Grief from Co-Stars

Trachtenberg’s untimely death prompted a wave of tributes from her former colleagues on Gossip Girl. Notably, Leighton Meester, who portrayed Blair Waldorf, described the news as “devastating.” In an interview with Flaunt magazine, Meester reflected, “She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her.”

Meester also noted the enduring influence of Gossip Girl, stating, “Now, I can see that the show’s legacy continues – in some ways, even more so than back then – to live on, which is incredible.” Her words highlight the significant impact Trachtenberg had on the series and its cast.

Fellow cast member Penn Badgley described the news as “surreal,” remarking on his limited acquaintance with Trachtenberg. He shared with E! News, “What I remember of her is she was incredibly quick to laugh. She was really joyous.” Badgley emphasized the dichotomy of life, noting her maturity alongside a “childlike, joyous laugh.”

Personal Reflections from Close Friends

Taylor Momsen, who played Jenny Humphrey, expressed her heartbreak on Instagram, stating the tragic news left her “heart on the floor.” She recalled their long-standing friendship, writing, “When I met this girl 17 years ago, I knew we’d be friends. She was smart and sassy, bold and sensitive, funny as f*** and filled with fire.” Momsen emphasized the bond they shared, noting, “I’ll miss our late-night calls that no one should ever hear but us.”

Momsen’s tribute encapsulated the deep connection they had, stating, “She was always in my corner and there to support me whether I was right or wrong. I will miss you every day, my love.” Her heartfelt words resonate with the sentiments of many who knew Trachtenberg, underscoring her vibrant personality and lasting influence.

The loss of Michelle Trachtenberg has left a significant void in the hearts of those who loved her. As her friends and family continue to navigate their grief, they celebrate her life and contributions to the entertainment industry. Trachtenberg will be remembered not only for her talent but also for the joy and warmth she brought to those around her.
