Urgent: Fort Scratchley Concert Canceled Amid Storm Fears

UPDATE: The highly anticipated Music of the Guns concert at Fort Scratchley has been canceled due to concerns over a potential thunderstorm, leaving volunteers and attendees in shock. The decision, made just hours before the event, has sparked disappointment and frustration among the community.

Earlier today, volunteers were on-site and ready for the concert when they received notification from a representative of an external group about possible weather risks. Despite requesting a delay until 4 PM for further assessment, they were informed a decision had to be made immediately due to traveling constraints. This ultimatum led to an abrupt cancellation at 2 PM, leaving many without a chance to voice their opinions.

The concert serves as a crucial fundraiser for the not-for-profit charity, with ticket sales projected to yield a profit of approximately $3,000. However, pre-event costs of around $2,000 have already been incurred, creating a significant financial blow for the organization.

In a statement, the volunteers expressed their regret for the situation:

“We understand the disappointment and anger felt by the community.”

They confirmed that the event will be rescheduled for February 2024, with all tickets honored for the new date. Those unable to attend can request refunds through the original booking channels.

The cancellation has raised questions among the community about the decision-making process. Many attendees had traveled considerable distances, only to be informed of the event’s cancellation moments before it was set to begin.

As the volunteers work to rearrange the event, they thanked the people of Newcastle and the Hunter region for their ongoing support and understanding.

In their closing remarks, the team wished everyone a happy and safe holiday season, reinforcing their commitment to re-engage with the community and ensure the concert’s success upon rescheduling.

As this story develops, stay tuned for further updates regarding the new concert date and ticketing information.
