The Meat & Wine Co Unveils Refurbished Steakhouse in South Perth

The Meat & Wine Co is set to open its doors on December 12, revitalizing the much-loved former site of Coco’s in South Perth, which operated for 35 years. This new venture marks a significant addition to the region’s dining landscape, as the premium steakhouse aims to offer a fresh culinary experience at the waterside location.

Earlier this year, the Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group, known for its successful venues like 6HEAD and Hunter & Barrel, secured the space after Coco’s announced it could not extend its lease in April. With stunning views of the Perth CBD skyline and the Swan River, The Meat & Wine Co’s South Perth venue becomes the second location in Western Australia, following its establishment on St Georges Terrace.

Revitalizing a Dining Legacy

Laurie Thorpe, State Manager for Western Australia, expressed confidence that the South African-inspired restaurant can make a positive impact in the community. He acknowledged the emotional connection many locals have with Coco’s, stating, “South Perth has a proud legacy of exceptional restaurants.” He believes that the new venue will enhance the area’s dining options and hopes to create a destination reminiscent of the cherished memories associated with Coco’s.

Exclusive designs reveal a strong influence from The Meat & Wine Co’s South African heritage. The restaurant, aptly named Cape Point, features a spacious 200-seat design centered around a communal fire pit, a nod to the cultural traditions of storytelling and gathering. The award-winning design firm COOOP.co has been commissioned to create an environment that blends the modern Australian dining experience with the warmth of South African culture.

A Culinary Journey to South Africa

The menu promises to be a highlight, showcasing The Meat & Wine Co’s signature a la carte options alongside a new Safari Menu that explores the diverse flavors of South African cuisine. Sean Hall, the restaurant’s Head of Culinary, who hails from South Africa, emphasized that diners will experience “food from the home,” featuring dishes like the hearty lamb curry of Bunny Chow and the slow-braised delicacy of Lamb Potjie.

To complement the culinary offerings, the beverage list will include selections from the renowned wine regions of both Western Australia and South Africa, ensuring a well-rounded dining experience.

As The Meat & Wine Co prepares to open, the excitement in the community is palpable. With its focus on high-quality dining and a commitment to honoring local traditions, the restaurant is poised to become a new favorite for both residents and visitors alike.
