Stranger Things Stars Share Secrets Behind Final Season’s Scripts

The cast of *Stranger Things* has unveiled how they kept the highly anticipated ending of the show a secret during filming. Stars Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin discussed their experiences with Yahoo Lifestyle, just days before the release of Volume One of the fifth and final season, set to premiere on November 27, 2023. This first installment will feature the initial four episodes, capturing the excitement and emotions that have built up over three and a half years since the fourth season aired.

Both actors shared their initial reactions after reading the script, which they had not seen prior to the table read. Finn Wolfhard, known for his role as Mike Wheeler, expressed a mix of emotions. “There were a lot of different reactions, I mean they were all positive, but a lot of emotions,” he recounted. “Once we actually started reading it, it was like – there was so much energy. I started to get really emotional reading it, because it just dawned on me that this was coming to an end.”

Caleb McLaughlin, who portrays Lucas Sinclair, emphasized the strict measures taken to maintain confidentiality surrounding the script. “Honestly? I read it, then I forgot about everything,” he said. “In the table read, we weren’t able to take the script, keep it, or even get it in an email.” He added that he was so focused on the filming process that any details he read slipped from memory.

Emotional Journey for the Cast

The cast’s experiences throughout the filming process have been described as a rollercoaster of emotions. Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington, noted that finishing the show felt bittersweet after a year-long production. The filming began on January 2, 2022, and concluded in mid-December of the same year. “You go through the full range of emotions, and then at the end, it’s really bittersweet,” he explained. “It was everything.”

Charlie Heaton, who takes on the role of Jonathan Byers, expressed appreciation for the unique filming schedule. “In a way, the idea of starting in January and finishing in December, it’s a whole year, circular,” he remarked. “It worked. It was kind of amazing that ultimately it was the experience we got for the final season.”

Maya Hawke, playing Robin Buckley, reflected on her feelings of “grief and gratitude” during her last day on set. Joe echoed these sentiments, highlighting the rarity of being involved in a project that spans a decade. “It’s hard to say goodbye to something like *Stranger Things*,” he said. “To share it with people you actually like? It’s just great.”

Key Plot Points and Release Details

As fans prepare for the conclusion of this beloved series, they might recall the dramatic events at the end of season four. The story, set in the 1980s, follows a group of friends uncovering secret government experiments involving the monstrous Vecna (played by Jamie Campbell Bower) from the alternate dimension known as The Upside Down. The season culminated in a tragic moment when Vecna briefly killed Max (Sadie Sink), opening gates to the Upside Down and causing an earthquake. Although Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) saved Max, her friend remains in a coma, adding to the stakes for the final season.

Following the release of Volume One on November 27, Volume Two, comprising episodes five to seven, will debut on Boxing Day, with the series finale scheduled to stream on New Year’s Day. Fans are eager to see how the story unfolds and whether the characters can prevent the merging of their world with the dangerous Upside Down.

With its compelling narrative and endearing characters, *Stranger Things* has left a lasting impact on its audience. The journey of the cast, filled with heartfelt moments and significant reflections, will surely resonate with viewers as they bid farewell to a show that has captivated millions across the globe.
