Supermarket Brawl Erupts in Bathurst: Woman Assaulted, Fined $1,000

UPDATE: A shocking supermarket brawl in Bathurst, Australia, has captured headlines as a woman has been fined and placed on a community correction order following a violent altercation witnessed by children.

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 8:30 PM, Kimberly Simpson, 25, from Bannerman Crescent, was involved in a physical confrontation at a local supermarket, during which she assaulted another woman in front of her children. The incident, recorded on CCTV, escalated from a verbal argument to physical violence as both women exchanged blows throughout the aisles.

In court proceedings held on October 22, 2025, Simpson pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. According to court documents, the fight began when Simpson raised her middle finger at the victim, leading to hair-pulling and scratching that left visible marks. The confrontation was so intense that it moved from aisle to aisle as onlookers, including children, watched in shock.

Authorities revealed that the altercation was triggered by an alleged provocation when the victim purportedly called Simpson a “paedophile protector.” Simpson recounted to police, “Something ticked in my head … I put my stuff down and walked closer to her … it all exploded from there.”

Magistrate Gemma Slack-Smith condemned the public nature of the brawl, emphasizing the impact on innocent bystanders. “It was in public, other people were exposed to it,” she stated. As a result of her violent history, Simpson was sentenced to a 12-month community correction order and fined $1,000.

The incident has raised concerns about public safety and the need for increased awareness during family outings. Local authorities are calling for community support to address escalating public violence, especially in family-oriented environments.

This developing story sheds light on the urgent need for conflict resolution strategies in public spaces to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. As the case continues to unfold, community members are urged to stay informed about safety measures and to report any similar altercations to local law enforcement.

Stay tuned for further updates on this ongoing situation as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding this alarming event.
