Investigation Underway
Stockton’s Vice Mayor, Jason Lee, expressed his condolences and concern in a Facebook post, stating he is in contact with public safety officials to gather information about the shooting. “I will be pushing for answers,” he added.
The investigation is ongoing, with detectives working to establish a possible motive for the shooting. If you are this individual, turn yourself in immediately.”
Reports of the shooting reached law enforcement shortly before 18:00 local time (02:00 GMT). The authorities indicated that the banquet hall, where the shooting took place, shares a parking lot with various businesses.
Community Impact
Victims of the shooting included both children and adults, although their conditions have not been disclosed. Heather Brent, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, noted that early indications suggest the incident may have been targeted. “This is a very active and ongoing investigation, and information remains limited,” she said during a press briefing.
The mayor of Stockton, Christina Fugazzi, expressed her heartbreak over the event, emphasizing that families should be together in celebration rather than at hospitals praying for their loved ones.
Stockton, a city with a population of approximately 320,000, is situated around 64 kilometers south of Sacramento. This incident marks another tragic chapter in gun violence affecting communities across the United States. The local government and law enforcement agencies continue to seek answers and support from the public as they navigate this difficult situation.
