Bella Thorne has publicly accused singer-songwriter Charlie Puth of spreading falsehoods about her following an alleged romantic encounter in 2016. The actress, now aged 27, claims Puth, 33, “lied to the entire world” after she declined to engage in a sexual relationship with him.
The controversy traces back to a brief connection between Thorne and Puth, which surfaced in December 2016 when they were spotted together at the Jingle Ball in Miami. Puth later suggested that Thorne had been unfaithful, claiming she was also seeing her former boyfriend, Tyler Posey. Thorne has now responded, alleging that Puth fabricated stories about her after she refused his advances.
In a comment on an Instagram post referencing Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall, who stated she would not collaborate with Puth, Thorne expressed her frustration. She wrote, “Yeah I mean .. he lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train. All because I wouldn’t …. do the deed with him.”
Puth had previously taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express his feelings about the situation. He stated, “I can’t believe what I’m reading. No one should have their heart messed with like this, and I’m not going to be in the middle of it.” He added that he was unaware of the nature of Thorne’s relationship with Posey, asserting, “She told me she was not with him anymore. This is all news to me.”
Thorne responded to Puth’s claims, clarifying their relationship status. She posted on X, “Ty and I have been broken up for like over two weeks and Charlie and I AREN’T DATING, we are friends.” She elaborated that while they had spent time together, including attending the movies, their connection was platonic.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s The Jenny McCarthy Show, Thorne recounted the difficulties of her breakup with Posey, describing it as one of the hardest she had experienced. She explained, “Charlie had been tweeting about me for a while. He was trying to reach out to me.” The actress noted that Puth seemed to misunderstand an old news article about her and Posey, which led to his accusations. “He saw an old interview and got butthurt but instead of texting me and asking about it he put it on Twitter.”
Thorne’s revelations highlight the complexities of relationships in the public eye and the potential for miscommunication that can arise from social media interactions. As both artists navigate their careers and personal lives, this incident serves as a reminder of the scrutiny faced by public figures.
