American Power Systems Launches Dual Alternator Kit for Nissan Patrol

American Power Systems, Inc. (APS), based in Davenport, Iowa, has introduced a dual alternator bracket kit designed specifically for the Nissan Patrol, a vehicle often utilized in security and defense operations. This innovative solution addresses the increased electrical power demands that arise when these vehicles are enhanced with additional armor and specialized equipment.

The new kit enables users to install high-output alternators in the 2017-2024 Nissan Patrol Y62 models equipped with a 5.6L V8 petrol engine. It allows for configurations of 12V, 24V, or 48V, accommodating various operational needs with minimal modifications to the original equipment (OE) setup. As stated by APS President and CEO Amy Lank, “When outfitting the Nissan Patrol for security or defense missions, the demand for reliable electrical power rises dramatically due to added armor and specialized equipment.” This dual alternator system aims to support advanced functionalities such as anti-IED jammers, communication tools, satellite gear, and cooling units, ensuring that personnel remain safe and connected.

Meeting the Demands of Modern Operations

Since its entry into the Nissan Patrol market in 2021, APS has offered a range of high-output alternators, including 255- and 360-amp models for the 5.6L gasoline engines. In the spring of 2025, the company expanded its offerings with 290- and 390-amp Ultra Performance at Idle (UPI) alternators. APS has also developed a high idle controller kit for the Patrol, further enhancing its capabilities in demanding environments.

To guarantee high standards of quality and performance, all APS products undergo rigorous engineering processes and testing against industry standards for durability. Currently, over 2,000 vehicles equipped with APS technology are in active service, having logged 18,000 test miles at the Nevada Automotive Test Center. These tests confirm that APS alternators can withstand some of the most challenging conditions, providing stable and reliable power.

Lank emphasized the importance of this reliability, stating, “There is a reason why APS is globally trusted. We have a worldwide reputation for quality, innovation, and expertise.” The company’s products have been deployed on more than 10,000 vehicles across continents, including Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

A Legacy of Quality and Innovation

Founded in 2006, American Power Systems was established to fulfill the growing need for high-power solutions across various vehicle types and environments. The company quickly gained recognition for its commitment to quality and innovation, becoming a trusted partner for numerous governmental agencies, including the US Department of Defense and the Australian Ministry of Defence.

In recognition of its contributions to the industry, APS was honored as the Small Business Exporter of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Region VII office in March 2020. The company has also received accolades such as Battelle’s Small Business Supplier of the Year, highlighting its focus on reliable and durable products tailored to meet the needs of its clients.
