Bunbury Residents Benefit from New Water Efficiency Programs

Residents of Bunbury can now take advantage of a variety of water efficiency programs designed to save water and lower household bills. These initiatives come as part of a State-wide effort by the Cook Government and are particularly timely as summer approaches, bringing increased demand for water.

According to Aqwest, the local water utility, many households can significantly reduce their water consumption through simple changes. Showering alone accounts for nearly a quarter of household water use, making it one of the most effective areas to target for conservation efforts.

Programs to Enhance Water Efficiency

One of the key offerings is the Showerhead Swap Program, which allows customers to exchange up to two old showerheads for new models rated 4 stars under the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme. This initiative aims to promote the use of water-efficient fixtures, helping households make a tangible difference in their water usage.

Additionally, the Dual Flush Toilet Rebate offers residents a rebate of up to $400 when they purchase and install a new dual flush toilet to replace an older single flush model. This upgrade not only saves water but can also lead to significant reductions in water bills over time.

For those looking to invest in rainwater collection, the Rainwater Tank Rebate provides up to $1,000 for the installation of a new plumbed-in rainwater tank. There is also a rebate of $500 for replacing an existing tank or having an existing unit plumbed in. These options encourage the use of alternative water sources, which can alleviate pressure on local supplies.

Furthermore, residents can benefit from the Irrigation Service Rebate, which offers up to $200 for engaging a professional garden irrigator to enhance irrigation efficiency. This service can significantly reduce water wastage in gardens and lawns, contributing to overall conservation efforts.

Community Impact and Encouragement

These programs will remain available until May 31, 2026, allowing residents ample time to participate and benefit from the financial incentives. For further details or to apply, individuals can visit the Aqwest website at www.aqwest.com.au.

Water Minister and Bunbury MLA Don Punch emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating, “Aqwest’s water efficiency offers will help residents save on bills while supporting vital water conservation efforts in a region facing pressure on its water sources. Despite a wetter-than-usual winter, much of the rainfall isn’t reaching our aquifers – highlighting the need for proactive water-saving measures. I encourage everyone to take up the offers and learn more about how we manage and protect our water supply for future generations.”

By participating in these programs, Bunbury residents can not only reduce their utility bills but also play a crucial role in conserving water resources, ensuring a sustainable future for their community.
