Cedar Woods Proposes $30M for 78 Townhouses in Madeley NOW

UPDATE: Property developer Cedar Woods has just lodged plans for a significant $30 million development featuring 78 townhouses on a vacant site immediately north of Kingsway City Shopping Centre in Madeley. This urgent proposal is now open for public consultation through the City of Wanneroo, and community feedback is crucial as the decision deadline approaches.

The ambitious project aims to construct 70 two-storey townhouses and eight single-storey houses across a 1.85-hectare site, strategically located just off Wanneroo Road. Notably, all vehicular access will be routed through Old Trafford Avenue and a planned future road connection to the north, ensuring no direct access from Wanneroo Road itself.

Each townhouse is designed with modern living in mind, featuring six dwelling types that include both three and four-bedroom options. Each unit will be equipped with two parking bays, supplemented by an additional 19 visitor bays in shared areas. This development is not just about housing; it’s about creating a vibrant community.

According to a design planning report, city planning officers have expressed strong support for key design aspects of the proposal. “The proposed development will create an attractive, vibrant ‘urban village’, ideally located next to a district centre,” the report stated, emphasizing the importance of reducing travel needs for future residents and supporting sustainable planning practices.

The urban design planners highlighted the integration of built forms, streets, and landscaping, ensuring that the area remains visually appealing and promotes high levels of natural surveillance. Additionally, there are plans for a retaining and acoustic wall along the Wanneroo Road side of the site to enhance the living environment.

Public consultation is set to remain open until Thursday, December 11, 2023, allowing residents and stakeholders to voice their opinions before a final decision is made by the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel next year.

As the community engages in this critical discussion, the potential impact of this development on local housing and the environment is significant. Residents are encouraged to participate in the consultation process to shape the future of their neighborhood.

Stay tuned for further updates as we follow this developing story closely.
