URGENT UPDATE: Penrith Beach is officially opening its gates early for a community celebration on Saturday, December 6, 2025, as temperatures are set to soar to a scorching 41 degrees Celsius. The attraction, known as Pondi, will kick off with 300 free ice creams and beverages for the first visitors arriving at 9am.
The festivities will include DJ entertainment, a marquee, an ice cream truck, and a coffee van, ensuring a lively atmosphere until 2pm. Blue Mountains MP Trish Doyle expressed excitement over the early opening, stating, “I’m so happy that, particularly our Lower Mountains residents will get the chance to cool off at Pondi a day early.”
With the beach anticipated to draw crowds, Penrith Beach has already attracted over 330,000 visitors since its opening in December 2023. The beach will operate daily from 7am to 7pm throughout the peak of the 2025-26 summer season, including public holidays, and will remain open until April 2026. Visitors can expect enhanced facilities, including shaded seating and outdoor showers.
Safety is a priority, with Surf Life Saving NSW lifeguards on duty during opening hours to ensure a safe environment for all. Additionally, the iconic ‘Silver Bullet’ mobile clinic from Skin Check Champions will offer professional skin cancer checks, further emphasizing community health and safety.
Paul Scully, NSW Planning and Public Spaces Minister, highlighted the importance of these initiatives, stating, “Opening Penrith Beach early, extending hours, and delivering real water safety programs is exactly what fairness looks like for a community that copes with some of the hottest temperatures on the planet.”
As the community gears up for a day of fun and relief from the heat, make sure to arrive early to snag those free ice creams and enjoy all the activities Pondi has to offer. Don’t miss this opportunity to cool off and connect with the community at Penrith Beach!
