Jacob Elordi Earns Double Nomination at 83rd Golden Globes

Australian actor Jacob Elordi has received two nominations for the upcoming 83rd Golden Globes, recognizing his performances in the films Frankenstein and The Narrow Road to the Deep North. This marks a significant moment in Elordi’s rising career, as he competes against notable actors such as Benicio Del Toro for One Battle After Another and Paul Mescal for Hamnet in the category of best supporting male actor.

Elordi’s portrayal in The Narrow Road to the Deep North, based on the award-winning novel by Richard Flanagan, has also earned him a nomination for best male actor in a television series. The novel, which won the 2014 Man Booker Prize, has captivated audiences, contributing to Elordi’s growing acclaim.

Significant Nominations and Competition

In the supporting female actor category, nominees include Emily Blunt for The Smashing Machine and Ariana Grande for Wicked: For Good. Both One Battle After Another and Sentimental Value, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and Joachim Trier respectively, are positioned as frontrunners this awards season. One Battle After Another leads with nine nominations, while Sentimental Value follows closely with eight, highlighting a competitive landscape.

The Golden Globes are undergoing notable changes as they strive to move past their troubled history. For the first time, a new award for best podcast will be introduced, alongside an existing award for cinematic achievements that has previously recognized hits like Barbie and Wicked.

Industry Shifts and Upcoming Ceremony

These nominations arrive amid significant developments in the entertainment industry. Recently, Paramount made a hostile bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, offering $30 per share in cash, attempting to challenge Netflix and its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery for $72 billion. This move reflects a rapidly changing landscape in Hollywood, influencing how production companies and streaming services interact.

The Golden Globes ceremony will take place on January 11, 2024, hosted by Nikki Glaser, who received praise for her previous performance as host. The event will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+, with expectations for viewer engagement high, building on last year’s ratings of 9.3 million viewers.

In addition to the award nominations, Helen Mirren is set to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award, while Sarah Jessica Parker will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award. As the awards season unfolds, films like One Battle After Another, Hamnet, and Sentimental Value are in contention for the prestigious Oscar for best picture, setting the stage for an exciting year ahead in cinema.
