Urgent Compliance Blitz: 169km/h Driver Fined, 42 Vehicles Grounded

UPDATE: A driver was clocked at a staggering 169 km/h in an 80 km/h zone during a recent compliance operation across Stockton Beach and the Worimi Conservation Area. The blitz, conducted by the Port Stephens Hunter Police District alongside traffic and highway patrol officers, has resulted in serious penalties and heightened safety measures just in time for the busy holiday season.

Over the weekend of December 6-7, 2023, authorities inspected more than 80 vehicles during this extensive operation. In a significant show of force, police directed 87 vehicles for inspection, leading to the grounding of 42 vehicles for serious safety violations. A total of 35 defect notices were issued, with additional minor defect notices for the remaining vehicles.

In an aggressive push for road safety, police conducted nearly 400 breath tests and 10 drug tests. The operation resulted in 15 vehicles being fined for lacking the necessary beach permits, while 186 infringement notices were handed out for various defects. The crackdown also identified 30 speeding offences and issued 40 other infringements.

The alarming incident involving the speeding driver, clocked on Lemon Tree Passage Road, led to a hefty fine of $3,054 and a six-month suspension of their license. This highlights the ongoing risk posed by reckless driving in these popular tourist areas.

“This operation highlights our commitment to road safety and compliance during the busy holiday season,” stated a spokesperson from NSW Police.

The authorities are urging the public to comply with road regulations, especially as the festive season approaches. Motorists should remain vigilant and prioritize safety to avoid severe penalties.

As this operation wraps up, officials are expected to continue monitoring these areas closely. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to report any unsafe driving behavior as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance safety on the roads and beaches.

Stay tuned for further updates as police efforts intensify in the lead-up to the holidays, ensuring a safer environment for all.
