Urgent Manhunt for Driver After Cyclist Left Critically Injured

UPDATE: A manhunt is underway as police urgently search for the driver of a black Toyota SUV involved in a hit-and-run that left a cyclist critically injured at Nords Wharf, Lake Macquarie. The incident occurred earlier today, around 11 AM, at the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Awabakal Drive.

Authorities confirmed that emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a collision. Upon arrival, they found a man in his 40s severely injured. Paramedics from NSW Ambulance provided immediate treatment before transporting him to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota SUV did not stop following the incident, prompting police to launch an intensive investigation to locate both the vehicle and its driver. A crime scene has been established, and inquiries are actively ongoing.

Traffic in the area is heavily impacted. Only one northbound lane on the Pacific Highway is currently open, while southbound lanes have reopened but are experiencing significant delays. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the vicinity and seek alternate routes to minimize congestion.

Police are calling on anyone with information about the hit-and-run or dash-cam footage from the area to come forward. Individuals can contact Belmont police station or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.

This incident highlights the urgent need for community vigilance as police work diligently to bring the responsible driver to justice. More updates will follow as this story develops.
