Belle Morton Named 2025 Dux at Kerang Technical High School

BREAKING: Belle Morton has been named the 2025 dux of Kerang Technical High School, achieving an impressive ATAR of 80.85. This announcement came as a surprise to Morton, who learned the news just moments ago from her Year 12 coordinator.

“I was pretty shocked because I definitely didn’t expect to get it,” Morton stated following the call. The young scholar had aimed for an ATAR of 80 but never anticipated that this would secure her the prestigious title of dux.

In a small town like Kerang, balancing academics with extracurricular activities is crucial. Morton has successfully managed her commitments, participating in netball and ballet dancing while navigating the pressures of Year 12. “I tried not to get burnt out and study too hard,” she explained. “I wanted to still do my sport and get together with friends.”

Morton’s confidence fluctuated throughout the year as her results rolled in. “Sometimes I’d think, ‘Oh yeah, I reckon I can get it,’ and then other times I’d feel, ‘Oh no, I’m not going to get it,’” she shared.

Her academic journey was bolstered by her favorite subjects: Legal Studies, English, and Health. Morton attributes her success to a strong support network. “My family was really great, and I had a good group of friends. We helped each other through the year,” she noted.

She also commended the staff at Kerang Technical High School for their unwavering support. “They were always very happy to help and sit down with you whenever you needed it,” Morton said, emphasizing the importance of asking for help.

Looking ahead, Morton plans to pursue a career in education, aiming to study primary teaching at Deakin University in Geelong. This ambition was sparked during remote learning, when she assisted her younger sisters while her parents worked as essential workers. “I had a moment when I was teaching my two little sisters and I thought, ‘Oh, I could actually do this as a career,’” she recalled.

As she prepares for the next stage of her education, Morton has valuable advice for future Year 11 and Year 12 students. “Work hard, but definitely balance out your life,” she urged.

This recognition of Belle Morton not only highlights her academic achievements but also serves as an inspiration for students everywhere. Her story is a reminder of the importance of resilience, support, and balance in achieving one’s goals.
