Urgent Police Operation in Dubbo Seizes Knives and Drugs

BREAKING: A significant police operation in Dubbo CBD has resulted in the seizure of five knives and illicit drugs, leading to the arrest of six individuals. The operation, conducted by officers from the Orana Mid-Western Police District, unfolded on December 18, 2023, between 9 AM and 9 PM, as part of the ongoing Operation Ares initiative aimed at enhancing community safety and reducing knife crime.

During this high-visibility operation, law enforcement stopped and scanned 105 individuals at key shopping centers throughout the city. The rigorous checks led to eight personal searches, resulting in three drug detentions and the confiscation of five knives. This decisive action underscores the authorities’ commitment to curbing violence and illegal activities in public spaces.

Around 2:20 PM, police engaged a 54-year-old man near the intersection of Church and Brisbane Street. Following a search, officers discovered methylamphetamine, cannabis, and a knife in his possession. He has been issued a field court attendance notice for two counts of possessing prohibited drugs and custody of a knife, with a court appearance scheduled at Dubbo Local Court on January 28, 2026.

In a related effort, authorities also seized two knives in Bathurst as part of the same operation. The use of handheld scanners, known as electronic metal-detecting ‘wands,’ has been pivotal in these operations, allowing officers to target areas with higher incidences of knife-related offenses.

Operation Ares continues to roll out across designated locations in New South Wales, reflecting a broader strategy to enhance public safety and deter potential criminal activities. The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, as residents feel a renewed sense of security with increased police presence.

As this operation progresses, police are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior. Authorities emphasize that these efforts are crucial for fostering a safer environment for all. Stay tuned for further updates as Operation Ares expands its reach and effectiveness in combatting knife crime across the region.
