UPDATE: Thousands of Novocastrians gathered at Lambton Park this evening for the highly anticipated annual Carols in the Park, despite sweltering heat. The event, hosted by Hunter Bible Church, kicked off at 5 PM and featured a lively atmosphere filled with carnival rides, family activities, and a variety of food trucks.
As the sun began to set, families and friends spread picnic rugs and enjoyed the festive spirit. The carols, featuring a mix of traditional and contemporary songs, are set to begin at 7 PM, including favorites like “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Silent Night,” and “Aussie Jingle Bells.” A total of 22 carols will be performed throughout the night, with an intermission scheduled for 8 PM.
Event coordinator Sam Hilton expressed the importance of community during this festive season, stating,
“It’s a chance for families, friends, and neighbors to come together, enjoy wonderful music, and get into the Christmas spirit in a very Newcastle way.”
As the celebration unfolds, Transport for NSW has alerted drivers of expected heavier traffic around the park from 5 PM to 9:30 PM due to the influx of attendees. The evening is set to culminate with a spectacular fireworks display at 9 PM, lighting up the night sky and bringing the community together in celebration.
This annual event not only marks the beginning of the Christmas season but also strengthens community ties, inviting everyone to join in the joy and holiday spirit. Stay tuned for updates as the festivities continue!
