West Australian Police Investigate Incident Involving Local Woman

A woman in Broome, Western Australia, is at the center of an investigation following a disturbing incident captured on video during her interaction with police. The footage shows Corrina Sebastian falling to the ground after calling the authorities, sparking questions about the circumstances surrounding her fall. The incident occurred on Saturday night near Tang Street, where Ms. Sebastian was reportedly celebrating a family member’s birthday.

According to reports, Ms. Sebastian was attacked by two women before she contacted the police for assistance. She described the confrontation, stating, “I got mobbed … that’s when I fought my way out, I got my mobile phone and rang the cops.” Following her call, she recalls little of the events leading to her fall and was only made aware of the incident after a family member shared the video with her. “I don’t recall anything after that,” she added, expressing her shock upon seeing the footage.

Investigation Underway

In response to the incident, Kimberley Police Acting Superintendent Matt Garnaut confirmed that an internal investigation is being conducted. While he could not disclose whether Ms. Sebastian had indeed called the police or the specifics of what led to her hitting the ground, he stated that officers were patrolling Tang Street when they encountered a “group of females involved in an altercation” around 10:40 PM on Saturday.

“Police had cause to speak to one of the females, and during that interaction, a female has fallen to the ground,” Acting Superintendent Garnaut explained. He emphasized that the details surrounding the incident would be examined as part of the ongoing investigation led by the internal investigations unit. Officers from the internal affairs unit of the WA Police are en route to Broome to further probe the matter.

Ms. Sebastian has expressed a desire for clarity regarding the events that transpired. “I’m pretty hurt. I’m a mother, I’m a grandmother, I work locally,” she said, highlighting her concern for the implications of the incident on her life and community.

The footage of the incident has since been shared more than 600 times on social media, drawing attention to the situation and raising public interest in the outcome of the police investigation. As authorities continue to gather information, the community remains alert to developments regarding this troubling case.
