Celebrate New Year’s Eve with Free Public Transport in Perth

Transperth has announced that all public transport services in Perth will be free from midnight until 06:00 on January 1, 2024. This initiative aims to ensure that those celebrating New Year’s Eve can return home safely without the burden of transport costs. Passengers will not need to tag on or off, making travel more straightforward during this festive period.

To accommodate the influx of celebrations, Transperth will enhance its services. All train lines will operate through the night of December 31, ensuring that revelers have access to transportation well into the early hours of New Year’s Day. Bus services will connect major locations, including Perth CBD, Northbridge, Fremantle, Scarborough Beach, and Rockingham Beach. Additional buses will service selected routes before and after midnight.

Expanded Services for a Safe Celebration

The Surf CAT ferry will also add extra trips following midnight, while the Perth and Joondalup CAT buses will adhere to their regular weekday timetables. Ferries will operate both before and after midnight, with the last ferry leaving from Elizabeth Quay Jetty at 02:00 and from Mends Street Jetty at 02:15.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti emphasized the importance of these arrangements, stating, “We’ve put on extra Transperth services to help you get to and from your celebrations this New Year’s Eve.” She highlighted the improvements made through METRONET, which has expanded the train and bus networks, making public transport more accessible than ever.

Those planning to use public transport are encouraged to visit the Transperth website or utilize the Transperth app to plan their journeys effectively. With the combination of free fares and extended services, Transperth aims to provide a convenient and safe travel option for all celebrating the New Year in Perth.
