Machete Attack on Melbourne’s Lygon St Leaves Two Seriously Injured

URGENT UPDATE: A shocking attack unfolded in Melbourne on New Year’s Eve, leaving two men seriously injured on the iconic Lygon St. Just after 11:45 PM on December 31, authorities report that a group of up to seven men armed with machetes and knives assaulted the victims outside a restaurant near the intersection of Argyle Place.

The victims, a 20-year-old man from Heidelberg West and an 18-year-old man visiting from New South Wales, were quickly transported to the hospital due to the severity of their injuries. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic as the assailants fled the scene in vehicles shortly after the attack.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident, with a spokesperson from Victoria Police stating, “Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives will investigate if the incident was a targeted attack.” As of now, no charges have been laid, and authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation.
