City of Karratha Grants $195,615 to Local Community Programs

Australian Dollars money bundle

UPDATE: The City of Karratha has just announced a significant boost for local community programs, distributing a total of $195,615 in funding through its Large Community Grant Scheme. This financial support will impact several organizations, enhancing community engagement and sporting events throughout the region.

Among the beneficiaries are the Karratha Kangaroos Junior Rugby League, Northern Swimming Association, RSPCA, Baynton West Primary School P&C, and Karratha Basketball Association. The funds will facilitate a variety of initiatives, including the Kangaroos’ gala day and Anzac match, alongside the 2026 Belt Up Country Pennants event organized by the swimming association.

The RSPCA will utilize its share for a community action day, while Baynton West Primary School P&C is set to receive $50,000 specifically for upgrading the school’s playground. The Karratha Basketball Association will invest $23,760 in a mental wellbeing and resilience course aimed at players, coaches, and referees, ensuring a holistic approach to youth sports.

This allocation is part of the council’s annual budget of $600,000 for community grants. Following this round of funding, there remains $302,885 available for future projects, as noted by local officials.

In total, eight organizations applied for funding in this round. However, two applications—one from Karratha Community House requesting $16,073 for a safety upgrade, and another from the Hindu Association of Pilbara seeking $49,987 for a 2026 arts and culture festival—did not receive funding. Council officers explained that these proposals were not recommended due to various logistical issues, including a failure to meet guidelines or requiring further planning.

Council representatives are committed to supporting these organizations, stating,

“Officers will work with unsuccessful applicants to assist them to apply in future rounds of grant funding.”

As the City of Karratha moves forward, these allocations stand to enhance community spirit and provide essential resources for local initiatives, making a direct impact on residents’ lives.

Stay tuned for more updates on how these projects develop and the opportunities they create for the Karratha community.
