City of Karratha Unveils $195,615 Community Grants for Local Initiatives

Australian Dollars money bundle

UPDATE: The City of Karratha has just announced a significant boost to local organizations, distributing $195,615 in community grants to enhance programs across the region. This funding is part of the council’s Large Community Grant Scheme, aimed at supporting vital community initiatives.

Among the beneficiaries are the Karratha Kangaroos Junior Rugby League, the RSPCA, and the Baynton West Primary School, all set to utilize the funds for events and improvements that will resonate throughout the community. This financial assistance will support a diverse array of activities, including the Kangaroos’ upcoming gala day and Anzac match, and the 2026 Belt Up Country Pennants hosted by the Northern Swimming Association.

The Karratha Basketball Association is earmarking $23,760 for a crucial mental wellbeing and resilience course, aimed at players, coaches, and referees. Meanwhile, the Baynton West Primary School’s $50,000 allocation is designated for upgrading its playground, ensuring a safer and more engaging environment for students.

This year, the council allocated a total of $600,000 for the grant scheme, with $302,885 still available for the next funding round. Eight organizations submitted applications, with only six receiving funding, leaving the Karratha Community House and the Hindu Association of Pilbara without grants this cycle. The Karratha Community House requested $16,073 for its “Pat Buchanan safety and comfort upgrade,” while the Hindu Association sought $49,987 for a cultural festival in 2026, totaling $96,357.

Despite the rejection, the council noted that all proposals were valuable community initiatives. In a statement, council officers indicated that they would assist unsuccessful applicants in refining their proposals for future funding opportunities.

This funding announcement is vital for local organizations striving to enhance community engagement and development. As these projects unfold, residents are encouraged to participate and support these initiatives, reflecting a community spirit that thrives on collaboration and support.

Stay tuned for further updates as Karratha continues to invest in its community through essential programs and initiatives.
