Shop Owner Fights Off Hammer-Wielding Robbers in Brisbane

BREAKING: A 68-year-old cancer survivor bravely fought off two hammer-wielding robbers posing as delivery drivers in a shocking attack at his collectibles shop in Clayfield, Brisbane. This urgent incident unfolded earlier today as the intruders attempted to storm his shop, leaving Andrew injured but determined to protect his livelihood.

The violent encounter lasted a mere 20 seconds, during which the assailants struck Andrew on the head with a hammer. Surveillance footage captured the moment the fake delivery drivers knocked on the door before launching their attack. “With my foot holding the door open, I managed to push them back and lock the door,” Andrew recounted, showcasing his quick thinking in the face of danger.

In a desperate bid for survival, Andrew retrieved a military machete from the back room and fought back against the intruders, hacking at them through the shattered glass door. “I wasn’t very happy that they were attempting to hurt me or my dogs,” he said, emphasizing the emotional stakes of the confrontation. “I was going to fight them to the bitter end.”

The brazen robbers fled empty-handed as neighboring business staff arrived on the scene. Tracy Stenton, a nearby shop owner, rushed to check on Andrew’s well-being. “I just parked my car and ran over to see if Andrew was OK,” she said, highlighting the community’s swift response.

Andrew suffered bruises from the attack, notably in the same area where he had recently undergone cancer treatment. “I’ve just been through radiation. I’m not feeling the best,” he admitted, yet his resolve to protect his shop remained unshaken. His collection of coins and memorabilia, precious to him, was at stake during this brutal encounter.

Authorities believe the robbers had previously stolen a bin from behind the shop to conceal their weapons. Andrew had initially mistaken their object for a parcel, a decision that nearly cost him dearly. “I’m never going to open the door to anybody again until I know who they are,” he vowed, a lesson learned from this terrifying experience.

This attack occurred during a time that should have marked a celebration for Andrew, as it coincided almost exactly with 50 years since he moved from the United Kingdom to build a life in Australia. Despite the trauma of the incident, he remains focused on recovery and security.

Police have confirmed that the two offenders are still at large and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The masquerade of delivery drivers is a rare and calculated tactic in such crimes, raising alarms for other small business owners in the area.

Andrew’s courageous stand against these criminals serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance in our communities. As authorities continue to investigate, the incident underscores the risks faced by local business owners and the importance of community support in times of crisis.

Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
