David Corenswet Celebrates Superman Premiere with James Gunn’s Vision

The premiere of the highly anticipated new Superman film in Los Angeles brought together cast and crew, with lead actor David Corenswet expressing his appreciation for the film’s director, James Gunn. Corenswet, 32, described the environment on set as one filled with a “familial feeling,” a testament to Gunn’s commitment to cultivating a supportive atmosphere during production.

During an appearance on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*, Corenswet recounted his excitement while watching the film for the first time with the audience. He noted, “Usually I watch a movie early. If I’m nervous, I want to get my self-conscious viewing out of the way early. But when I started seeing the trailers, I kind of got the feeling of what it might be to watch the movie as an audience member, and there was this uplifting energy and feeling of inspiration.”

The actor emphasized the film’s nostalgic appeal, stating, “It feels like the movies that I grew up watching and loved, so I wanted to preserve the experience.” The premiere featured a large crowd of cast members, crew, and loved ones, contributing to a positive and supportive atmosphere.

Corenswet’s Second Viewing and James Gunn’s Vision

Corenswet also shared that he watched the film a second time in a cinema in Philadelphia. Reflecting on his experience, he said, “That was the first viewing and there was some self-consciousness, so I needed to go back. So I snuck into the back of an IMAX screening outside of Philly with a couple of friends. It was great. It was better the second time.”

Gunn, known for his work on other successful films, expressed optimism about the new Superman project. In an interview with *The Hollywood Reporter*, he highlighted the character’s significance in contemporary society, stating, “I think he’s the right Superman because he is a character that stands for something that is solid, stands for basic human morals, basic human integrity, basic belief in protecting others and protecting the weak being good to people and being honest. People are looking for heroes right now.”

He further elaborated on the promotional strategy for the film, revealing that Warner Bros. Discovery has fully committed to supporting the project. Gunn noted, “DZ [David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery] loves what we’re doing, loves the movie, and has really rallied the entire company behind Superman for this summer.”

As the film gears up for its release in July 2025, Gunn is confident in the potential impact of a unified promotional campaign, comparing it to successful past endeavors like *Barbie* and *Wonka*. He stated, “You’ve seen what can happen when Warner Bros. Discovery gets together behind a Barbie or a Beetlejuice or a Wonka or Kong. And that’s how it’s being treated right now for Superman.”

The collaborative spirit fostered by Gunn, along with the enthusiastic response from the cast and crew, sets a promising tone as audiences await the film’s debut.
