UPDATE: A 42-year-old woman from Perth has been sentenced to 22 years and 6 months in prison for her role in a shocking global child abuse case. The sentencing comes just days after police rescued a young victim of this horrific abuse, which spanned both Australia and Ukraine.

Last week, authorities confirmed the woman was convicted on 13 offences related to the sustained sexual abuse and exploitation of a child under 13. The investigation was launched four years ago when evidence of the abuse surfaced online, leading to a coordinated effort by the Western Australia Police to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Detective Acting Superintendent David Palmer emphasized the relentless pursuit by the Child Abuse Squad to apprehend those who exploit children. “These crimes will not be tolerated,” he stated. “Every image or video of child exploitation material is not just a picture – it is evidence of a real child being abused.”

Police seized numerous electronic devices containing explicit material and online chats with other minors. The severity of the woman’s actions was highlighted in court, with the sentence reflecting the profound harm inflicted upon the victim. “It is a significant sentence that reinforces community condemnation of child sexual abuse, provides strong deterrence, and ensures community protection,” Palmer added.

Her male partner, previously sentenced to 23 years in prison, was also implicated in this disturbing case. Fortunately, the young victim is now safe and receiving ongoing support.

Authorities are urging other survivors of abuse, or anyone with information, to come forward. Tips can be reported anonymously via the Safe2Say online platform, which has received over 2,400 reports since its launch in July 2023. This initiative underscores the commitment to combat child exploitation and support victims in their recovery.

This urgent case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against child abuse and the importance of community vigilance. The police remain dedicated to protecting children and bringing offenders to justice.
