Catalina Resources Limited (ASX:CTN) has commenced operations with a second reverse circulation (RC) drilling rig at its Evanston and Yerilgee Gold Projects located in the Central Yilgarn region of Western Australia. This development is part of the company’s ambitious Phase 1 drilling program, which aims to cover approximately 20,000 meters across these two key projects.
The introduction of an additional drilling rig enables Catalina to accelerate its exploration efforts, allowing for simultaneous drilling across multiple priority targets. This enhanced capacity is expected to significantly expedite the overall drilling process, as well as the integration of assay results into geological models for informed decision-making on follow-up drilling.
Ross Cotton, Executive Director of Catalina Resources, remarked on the importance of this new rig, stating, “The commencement of a second RC rig materially increases our ability to progress priority targets across Evanston and Yerilgee in parallel. This additional capacity allows us to advance drilling efficiently while ensuring assay results are rapidly incorporated into geological models to inform follow-up drilling decisions.”
Details of the Drilling Program
The ongoing drilling activities are central to Catalina’s Phase 1 exploration program, which is strategically designed to target a series of structurally and geochemically defined prospects within the Evanston and Yerilgee corridors. Specific targets include Leghorn, Viper South, and T1B at Evanston, as well as T8, Chicken Little, and Snowflake at Yerilgee.
As part of this program, Catalina plans to conduct approximately 8,000 meters of reverse circulation and aircore drilling. The second rig allows for an increase in drilling capacity, enabling simultaneous progress on multiple priority targets across both project areas. This acceleration reflects the results of recent geological interpretation, field observations, and target definition efforts.
Drilling continues at these priority locations, with samples being collected continuously on a metre-by-metre basis. These samples are submitted for laboratory analysis on a rolling basis, with assay results pending. Once received, these results will be integral to refining targets and guiding subsequent drilling programs.
