Exploring Australia’s Sporting Legacy

“Forging Champions” delves into defining moments in Australian sports history while also looking ahead to the upcoming Brisbane 2032 Olympics. Kieren Perkins, CEO of the Australian Sports Commission, emphasized the significance of this documentary as a reflection on the evolution of the AIS. “With excitement building for a home Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032, we are embarking on the most significant upgrade to our AIS campus since its establishment in the 1980s,” Perkins stated.

The documentary not only celebrates over 40 years of sporting excellence but also aims to inspire future generations of athletes. Perkins added, “Forging Champions honours more than four decades of innovation and sporting excellence through the voices of iconic Australians.”

A Unique Collaboration with JAM TV

Produced in collaboration with JAM TV, “Forging Champions” offers a unique insight into the personal experiences of athletes who have trained at the AIS. Luke Tunnecliffe, Chief Content and Development Officer at JAM TV, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “The AIS has been an almost mythical-like destination for those not talented enough to become elite athletes.” Tunnecliffe highlighted the privilege of uncovering untold stories from athletes who have achieved greatness.

The documentary captures the essence of the AIS’s contribution to the sporting landscape, showcasing unforgettable moments experienced by those who trained at the facility. “We thank all of the amazing athletes for being so open in their recollections of their time,” Tunnecliffe remarked.

As the world turns its attention to the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Hamish Turner, Executive Director of 9Network and 9Now, noted that “Forging Champions” will energize Australian audiences. “We’re delighted to bring the unique role the AIS plays in Australian sport to life as we continue our journey to Brisbane 2032,” Turner stated.

With its rich narrative and compelling visuals, “Forging Champions” promises to be an engaging tribute to the athletes who have shaped Australian sports, while also setting the stage for future champions. The documentary will be available for streaming on 9Now, offering viewers a chance to revisit and celebrate Australia’s sporting achievements.
