The highly anticipated reality television series, The Block, is set to return, showcasing its first-ever new home builds in the picturesque town of Daylesford, Victoria. The contestants, referred to as “Blockheads,” have been revealed ahead of the show’s premiere, promising an engaging season filled with excitement and competition.
This season, the contestants were introduced to the local community during the annual ChillOut Festival parade, where they showcased floats they designed as part of a challenge on the show. The lineup features a diverse group of contestants eager to tackle the unique challenges of building new homes from the ground up.
Meet the Contestants
Sonny and Alicia, the Yellow Team from the Gold Coast, Queensland, bring a wealth of life experience to the competition. Having been together for 14 years and raising three children, the couple has previously applied to be on The Block but were unsuccessful last year. Sonny, aged 44, works as a plumber, while Alicia, aged 42, is a dental practice manager. Their journey on The Block is anticipated to be filled with both challenges and triumphs.
The Green Team, composed of best friends Robby and Mat from Adelaide, South Australia, is expected to inject humor into the season. Friends for over 15 years, Robby, aged 37, operates four salons and a café, while Mat, aged 41, works as a hairdresser and stylist. Interestingly, Mat has never watched an episode of The Block, making them the season’s rookies in terms of renovation experience, although their entrepreneurial backgrounds suggest they are no strangers to hard work.
From Perth, Western Australia, the Orange Team features Han and Can. The couple, who met just over a year ago, have been actively renovating their Californian bungalow. Han, aged 29, is a geologist and mining professional, while Can, aged 31, works as a marketing and social media analyst. Their fresh approach could be an advantage as they navigate the complexities of building.
Another team from Western Australia is Britt and Taz, the Red Team. This couple, who are also police officers, hail from Newman, located 12 hours north of Perth. Britt, aged 30, has a background in car sales and is also a photographer. Taz, whose full name is Taran, aims to inspire Indigenous youth in Australia, representing the Daharawal People.
Completing the lineup is the Blue Team, Emma and Ben from Mornington, Victoria. This high school sweetheart duo has been together for 14 years and has applied to The Block seven times. With Emma, aged 33, being a dance teacher and competitive pole dancer, and Ben, aged 32, working as an engineer, their extensive renovation experience includes buying and transforming homes since they were 24.
As the contestants prepare to take on the challenges ahead, they bring with them personal stories, aspirations, and a commitment to creating stunning homes. With the show returning to screens soon, viewers can expect an entertaining season filled with creativity and camaraderie among the Blockheads.
