Riverbend Ensemble to Perform at St Mary’s Anglican Church

A performance by the Riverbend Ensemble is set to take place at St Mary’s Anglican Church in Montville on Sunday, February 22, 2024, at 14:00. The ensemble, comprised of professional classical musicians based in Brisbane, is excited to showcase their program titled “Contrasts: Diverse Music for String Quartet.”

Violinist and Director Helen Carvolth expressed her enthusiasm for the venue, stating, “When you step into St Mary’s, there is an immediate sense of the passing of time, in a place where people have been gathering for over 100 years. We love to play in venues like this!”

Located at Memorial Close, Montville, St Mary’s Anglican Church was consecrated in 1914. The church, built from local timbers on a donated piece of land, boasts exceptional acoustics, which has made it a sought-after location for musical performances.

Carvolth reflected on the historical significance of the church, noting, “The fact that this church was built on the cusp of the Great War makes me reflect on the joys and sorrows celebrated and endured here.” The combination of its unique construction and rich history contributes to the church’s captivating atmosphere.

The ensemble’s performance will feature compositions by notable composers including Georg Telemann, Philip Glass, Brisbane’s own Rachel Merton, and the 19th-century French composer Charles Gounod.

Riverbend Ensemble aims to unite communities through music, and according to Carvolth, St Mary’s is the ideal venue for this purpose. The enchanting environment is expected to enhance the audience’s experience, making the event a memorable occasion for all attendees.

Tickets for the performance can be purchased online at www.trybooking.com/DIPZG or at the door, though pre-booking is strongly advised. Adult tickets are priced at $35 AUD, with concessions available for $30 AUD. Children under the age of 18 can attend free of charge.
