Strong Bull Sale Breaks Records at Willandra Auction in Williams

UPDATE: The 38th annual Willandra Simmental, Red Angus, and Angus bull sale in Williams, Australia delivered record-breaking results today, marking a significant turnaround for the Cowcher family. In a remarkable display of strength, the auction saw a total of 67 bulls sold at an impressive clearance rate of 94%.

The sale, held earlier today, attracted buyers from across the state, with some traveling from as far as Esperance and the South Coast. The auction featured a slightly larger team of 71 quality rising two-year-old bulls, including 31 traditional Simmental, 28 Red Angus, and 12 Angus bulls.

Mild weather conditions contributed to a bustling atmosphere, with a large crowd of buyers, agents, and industry representatives enjoying the hospitality offered by the Cowcher family. The event was also streamed live on AuctionsPlus, garnering 2,864 online views and attracting 34 registered bidders from around the country.

Despite increased online interest, active bidding was limited to just two participants. However, the sale’s overall performance exceeded expectations, with an average auction price of $8,545, a remarkable increase of $1,175 compared to last year.

In a standout achievement, the Red Angus team showcased a remarkable recovery, with 27 of 28 bulls (96% clearance) sold, including the top-priced bull at $18,000. This bull, named Willandra Villain V79, was purchased by Kent Muir of Wyndarra Red Angus and is expected to make a significant impact in the breeding program.

The sale also highlighted the continuing success of the Angus breed, with a complete clearance of all 12 Angus bulls sold for an average of $7,375. This marks a substantial improvement of $1,819 from last year’s average.

The top-priced Simmental bull, Willandra Vasse V028, fetched $15,000, purchased by Greg Templeton from Templeton Simmental Stud, Victoria. The bull’s exceptional performance data, including top rankings for weight intervals and carcass traits, made it a sought-after addition for Templeton’s breeding program.

As buyers engaged with the quality bulls on display, the atmosphere remained electric, underscoring the importance of this annual event in the regional agricultural calendar. The Cowcher family’s dedication to breeding excellence was evident in the high-quality offerings presented during the sale.

As the dust settles on this successful auction, all eyes are on the upcoming breeding season, with expectations high for the impact of these sales on local livestock production. The Willandra sale continues to uphold its legacy as Australia’s longest-running Simmental bull sale, and today’s results demonstrate the resilience and commitment of the industry.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to follow the developments in the livestock sector and the impact of today’s auction results on the agricultural community.
