Jansons Concrete and Haulage, a well-established business in East Gippsland, has marked a pivotal moment in its history by successfully designing and manufacturing its first custom trailer at its facility in Bairnsdale. This project, completed late last year, represents a strategic shift for the company as it transitions from primarily focusing on heavy machinery maintenance to embracing full-scale custom manufacturing.
The trailer, specifically engineered for cattle haulage, has already found a buyer in Queensland. The client opted for Jansons after experiencing lengthy wait times of up to two years with other manufacturers. In contrast, the Jansons team completed the build in an impressive eight weeks, which included six weeks for primary construction and an additional two weeks for the final fit-out. Notably, all components of the trailer, barring the suspension system, were designed and assembled on-site.
Natural Progression into Manufacturing
Owner Jarrod Jason remarked that the move into trailer manufacturing was a logical extension of the company’s capabilities. “For us, it started out as just refurbishing and repairing old trailers – that’s since grown to us building them,” he stated. He also mentioned that the company has additional trailers currently under construction at their facility.
The custom-built trailers are designed for durability, with an anticipated service life of around 10 years before any significant maintenance is needed. This new venture not only diversifies Jansons’ offerings but also strengthens its position within the competitive landscape of regional manufacturing.
Established Legacy and Community Support
Founded in 2003, Jansons Concrete and Haulage has expanded significantly over the past two decades. While the new manufacturing division is gaining traction, the company continues to be a regional leader in premixed concrete production, heavy haulage services, and equipment repairs. Currently, the business employs 24 staff members and boasts a comprehensive workshop that handles roadworthy certifications and various machinery repairs.
Beyond its industrial contributions, Jansons is dedicated to its local community through its “locals supporting locals” philosophy. The company actively sponsors multiple local football and cricket clubs and contributes to traditional regional events, such as woodchopping competitions and the renowned Omeo Rodeo. This commitment further cements Jansons’ role as a vital player in the social and economic fabric of East Gippsland.
With a strong foundation in concrete and haulage services and an ambitious new direction in custom trailer manufacturing, Jansons Concrete and Haulage is poised to drive innovation and growth from its Bairnsdale base.
