Community Celebrates Inspiring Women at Cardinia Cultural Centre

UPDATE: The Cardinia Cultural Centre became a hub of inspiration on March 5, 2026, as the community gathered to honor the women shaping the shire. The event, part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, focused on the theme “Balancing the Scales Through Her Story,” showcasing powerful storytelling and heartfelt reflection.

Attendees were greeted with a poignant Acknowledgment of Country before hearing keynote speaker Nartarsha Bamblett. As a proud First Nations woman and community leader, Nartarsha captivated the audience with profound narratives drawn from over a decade of experience in community empowerment. Her words set a powerful tone for the evening, emphasizing the need for unity and recognition of women’s contributions.

Also delivering an impactful keynote was Claire Tonti-Filippini, who left a lasting impression on attendees. Community members took the stage to share personal stories of the women who inspire them daily, creating an atmosphere filled with emotion and connection.

Following the speeches, many guests stayed to enjoy a special International Women’s Day edition of The Thursday Lounge, along with an exclusive after-hours viewing of Nikki Willson’s exhibition, What’s Left Unsaid, which further enriched the event.

The Mayor of Cardinia Shire, Cr Brett Owen, emphasized the significance of the celebration, stating, “

International Women’s Day unites us in celebrating the women who lead, nurture, create, and inspire in every corner of our shire.

” He highlighted the importance of recognizing women’s contributions, which “strengthen our community every single day through their leadership, care, creativity, and resilience.”

This event not only brought the community together but also fostered an environment of support and recognition for the vital roles women play in everyday life. As the celebrations wrapped up, the spirit of empowerment resonated deeply, reminding everyone of the ongoing journey toward equality and recognition.

What’s Next: The community looks forward to more events that continue this important dialogue, aiming to build on the momentum generated during the celebrations. As discussions around women’s rights and empowerment continue, local leaders are expected to announce further initiatives in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for more updates on these inspiring developments in the Cardinia Shire community!
