URGENT UPDATE: The 2026 Stars of Nowra fundraiser has officially launched, rallying the Shoalhaven community to combat cancer. Scheduled for May 23, 2026, this highly anticipated event aims to raise significant funds following a successful history, having already gathered over $1.6 million since its inception.
At the launch event, participants shared deeply personal stories, shining a light on cancer’s profound impact in the region. Notably, Crytal Brandon, vice-president of the Shoalhaven Business Chamber, revealed her motivation for joining the initiative. “I’m BRCA 2, so I have a genetic predisposition to cancer,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of awareness around genetic testing for the community.
The annual fundraiser not only supports the Cancer Council but also funds vital services such as accommodation at the Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre, transportation to treatments, and access to support lines. With just under 12 weeks to prepare, the 12 stars are already engaged in fundraising efforts, showcasing their commitment to the cause.
This year, the event will feature a creative twist as one participant collaborates with two dance instructors, enhancing the entertainment value. Former participant and judge, Jemma Tribe, urged the stars to focus on enjoyment rather than stress. “Don’t forget to relax and enjoy the experience,” she advised, underscoring the event’s theme of fun and good vibes.
Historically, the Stars of Nowra has proven to be a major success, with Kelly Dinneville, community fundraising lead for the Cancer Council, noting it as one of the most lucrative events in New South Wales. “Often the Stars of Nowra is raising the most amount of money in NSW across our events,” she confirmed.
The major sponsor, Mortgage Choice, along with participants, aims to continue this legacy of generosity. The lineup of stars includes local figures such as Ayush Chopra, Dean Portener, and Sara-Ann Dallas, all of whom are ready to take the stage alongside talented dance partners from various schools.
As preparations intensify, the community is urged to contribute and support this vital initiative. The impact of the Stars of Nowra extends beyond the event itself, playing a crucial role in providing resources and support for those battling cancer in the Shoalhaven region.
Stay tuned for more updates as the event date approaches. Together, the community can make a difference and fight against cancer one dance step at a time.
