URGENT UPDATE: A young entrepreneur from Tamworth is set to launch a groundbreaking pop-up initiative this Sunday, March 15, 2024, aiming to raise funds for vulnerable young people. Gina Kim, a passionate 17-year-old, will sell “high-grade ethical jewellery” at her Body Parler stalls during the Peel Street Markets, with a goal to raise at least $200 for the Raise Foundation.
“This pop-up is all about leadership among young people,” Kim stated, emphasizing the need for adult mentorship in guiding youth who face disadvantages. The Raise Foundation offers essential mentoring programs to help young Australians find direction and financial stability.
“A lot of young people in Australia don’t really know what they want to do or how they wish to make money, and so Raise just kind of helps that through adult mentorship,” Kim explained. What began as a passion project has now transformed into what Gina describes as “an adaptive learning ecosystem,” demonstrating her commitment to social change through her business.
“I am really passionate about using business as a tool for ethical change,” Kim continued. “I want to change things. You know how businesses these days are very motivated by profit, and I feel like a good change would be to invest in the environment and more in education.”
Kim’s initiative is not just a business venture; it is a lifeline for many young people in need. She has received strong support from her school, Peel High, where teachers and fellow students have rallied behind her efforts.
Looking forward, Kim plans to expand her knowledge in business by attending the University of New South Wales (UNSW) for a double degree in economics and business. “I want to learn more about the field before I fully dip my foot into it,” she said.
As the pop-up event approaches, the community is encouraged to support Gina’s efforts by visiting her stall at the Peel Street Markets this Sunday. Every purchase will directly contribute to mentoring programs that empower at-risk youth, making a significant impact on their lives.
This initiative not only highlights the entrepreneurial spirit of young Australians but also underscores the pressing need for social responsibility in business. With your support, Gina Kim is poised to drive positive change in her community, proving that local actions can have a far-reaching impact.
