BREAKING: Tarneit Central made history this weekend in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association, clinching not one, but two premierships in a thrilling display of cricket. The club’s top side triumphed in the George Luscombe Shield and the Keith Stringer Shield, marking a momentous occasion that will be remembered for years to come.
On Sunday, Tarneit Central’s victory in the Luscombe Shield was particularly notable as they bounced back from last season’s runner-up finish. In a nail-biting final against the Chargers, Tarneit successfully chased down a target of 217 runs, finishing with 7-218 and securing the win with over 10 overs to spare.
“It was a great day for the club,” said Amrit Bhangu, reflecting on the celebratory atmosphere following the victories. “The boys played really well in the chase.”
The grand final saw the Chargers bat first after winning the toss, putting up a respectable score of 217 before being bowled out on the final delivery. Simranjeet Singh Cheema led the bowling attack for Tarneit, taking three crucial wickets, supported by Gurpreet Singh and Kapilmeet Singh Sandhu, each claiming two wickets.
“We thought we could do it,” Bhangu emphasized, referring to the pressure of chasing a target over 200 runs. “We were pretty confident before going into bat.” Captain Mandeep Singh played a pivotal role, scoring 57 runs and earning the title of Player of the Match. His performance, along with solid contributions from the middle and lower order, secured the championship.
Meanwhile, in the Keith Stringer Shield, Tarneit also showcased their dominance, defeating the Merrifield Panthers with a score of 8-211 in response to the Panthers’ 207 runs. Notably, Gurinder Sohal delivered an outstanding performance, finishing with 123 not out, leading his team to victory.
These triumphs come on the heels of Tarneit Central’s earlier success, where they also claimed the Western Suburbs Churches and Community Cricket Association Division 1 T20 title, marking their third consecutive victory in that format. “This has been a successful season,” Bhangu added, highlighting the club’s impressive track record.
The dual premierships represent a significant achievement for Tarneit Central, with Bhangu noting, “It’s a big advertisement for the club.” As the players celebrate their victories, they are already focused on improving for next season.
Expect to see more from Tarneit Central as they aim to build on this momentum. With a strong foundation and a talented roster, the future looks bright for this cricketing powerhouse.
