Katherine Police Seize Large Quantities of Alcohol in Operations

Katherine Police have conducted significant operations in the Northern Territory, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of alcohol during two separate incidents over the weekend. On Saturday, authorities intercepted a vehicle traveling from Darwin to Beswick, leading to the confiscation of a considerable amount of liquor around 10:30 PM.

In a separate operation on Sunday afternoon, police officers in Katherine were performing alcohol compliance checks in Pine Creek when they seized 30 litres of beer from an individual. This man allegedly attempted to transfer the purchased alcohol to a waiting van parked outside a licensed establishment. Following the seizure, he reportedly refused to leave the premises despite multiple warnings. As a result, he received an Electronic Liquor Infringement Notice (ELIN) for his non-compliance and was issued a Banned Drinking Order (BDO).

Police Commitment to Community Safety

Sergeant Matthew Holmberg from the Katherine Social Order Unit emphasized the police’s ongoing efforts to target the secondary supply of alcohol, especially in flood-affected areas. He stated, “Police are actively targeting the secondary supply of alcohol in flood-affected areas and will continue to do so to ensure a safe community for everyone.”

Holmberg’s comments underline the importance of community safety and the enforcement of alcohol regulations in the region. He warned individuals considering illegal alcohol distribution, saying, “To anyone thinking of illegally supplying alcohol to others, our message is simple – don’t do it or prepare to face the consequences.”

The operations reflect a broader effort by law enforcement in the Northern Territory to maintain public safety and prevent the illegal distribution of alcohol, especially in vulnerable communities. This proactive approach aims to deter potential violations and ensure compliance with existing regulations.

As these initiatives continue, Katherine Police remain vigilant in their commitment to safeguarding the well-being of residents.
