URGENT UPDATE: The search for a missing fisherman off the east coast of Australia has resumed, with emergency services mobilizing boats and aircraft in a desperate effort to locate him. The 56-year-old man went missing after failing to return from a fishing trip that began on Saturday morning from Batemans Bay Marina.
Authorities report that the fisherman departed around 6:00 AM on Saturday aboard an eight-metre Arvor cruiser. Contact was established with him at approximately 10:00 AM, but when he did not return that evening, emergency services were alerted. The search operation, led by the Marine Area Command, has intensified as crews work tirelessly to cover critical areas.
On Monday, search efforts were ramped up with nearly 30 volunteers from Marine Rescue NSW actively scouring the waters. Teams from Narooma, Bermagui, and Merimbula are currently engaged, covering a vast area extending from Ulladulla to Merimbula and reaching up to 22 kilometers offshore.
Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Stuart Massey expressed the team’s determination, stating,
“All of our dedicated volunteers are tired but ready to continue … they are an incredible group of committed people.”
The emotional toll of searching for a missing person weighs heavily on the volunteers, but their commitment remains unwavering.
As the search continues, authorities urge local residents and boaters to remain vigilant and report any sightings that could assist in locating the missing fisherman. Time is of the essence, and any new information could prove vital in this ongoing operation.
Stay tuned for further updates as this developing situation unfolds. The community is rallying for the safe return of the fisherman, highlighting the human impact of this urgent search.
