17-Year-Old Student Tragically Dies in Crash in NSW

UPDATE: A tragic accident has claimed the life of 17-year-old Stirling Heriot, a Year 12 student at The King’s School, in a crash near his family home in Quambone, NSW. Emergency services rushed to the scene on July 18, 2023, at approximately 6:45 PM, following reports of a vehicle leaving the road and rolling.

Authorities from the Orana Mid Western Police District confirmed that Stirling was found deceased at the scene of the accident. His mother, Bridie Heriot, expressed her heartbreak on Facebook, stating, “My beautiful boy, how will we do life without you?” She added, “You could not have been loved more and our hearts are full just thinking of you.”

The crash occurred on Quambone Road, close to the Heriot family’s property in Coonamble, prompting police to establish a crime scene and launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

In a heartfelt tribute, The King’s School described Stirling as “widely admired for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to engage warmly with those around him.” His dedication was evident in his studies, particularly in industrial technology, where he was working on a major project involving a tandem-axle multipurpose farm trailer for his family’s property.

Stirling was also an active member of the school’s 2nd IV rowing team and participated in rugby union and cadets. The school’s statement highlighted that his loss “will be deeply felt by his family, his friends, the Baker Hake boarding community, his Year 12 peers, and many others across the school who had the privilege of knowing and teaching him.”

As the community mourns this devastating loss, The King’s School emphasized the importance of supporting one another during this difficult time. They urged others to keep the Heriot family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate through this profound grief.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as authorities seek to uncover more details about the tragic accident.
