Second Earthquake Hits Central West Hours After First Tremor

BREAKING: The Central West of Australia has been rocked by a second earthquake within hours of the first, shaking residents late Sunday night. The initial tremor struck at 7:19 PM on July 20, 2023, registering 2.8 on the Richter scale, later updated to 2.9 by Monday morning. The quake was felt across several towns, including Bathurst, Canowindra, and Cowra.

Just a few hours later, at 11:51 PM, a second earthquake registered 2.6 in magnitude, with its epicenter located in Panuara. As of now, only one report of the tremor being felt has been confirmed, coming from Millthorpe. This contrasts sharply with the earlier earthquake, which saw 89 reports of tremors from concerned residents in Woodstock.

Adding to the seismic activity in the region, authorities recorded a third earthquake in the Goulburn River National Park near Merriwa at 10:45 PM on the same night, also registering a magnitude of 2.6.

Residents across the Central West are urged to stay alert as aftershocks may follow. Officials are monitoring the situation closely and advise the public to report any tremors felt.

For those in affected areas, it is a tense and unsettling time as communities grapple with the implications of these seismic events. Experts continue to analyze the data to determine potential causes and future risks.
