UPDATE: Paramedics in Little Rock, Arkansas, have successfully rescued a raccoon whose head was stuck in an empty soup can early Sunday morning, July 20, 2025. The incident unfolded as medic Stewart Uzzell and his partner were preparing to leave a parking lot when they heard a distressed sound emanating from the roadside.
Upon investigation, they discovered a grey-and-black raccoon sprinting down the street, desperately trying to free itself from the can. Uzzell quickly realized that they needed to intervene. “We thought, ‘Oh, no. We’ve got to help this thing,’” Uzzell told KARK-TV.
Despite their best efforts to pull the raccoon free, Uzzell and his partner had to resort to using specialized equipment from their ambulance. They utilized shears and a ring cutter to carefully cut through the metal can. After a tense few moments, they managed to free the animal, which then scampered away unharmed.
The team affectionately named the raccoon Campbell, in a nod to the soup can from which it was rescued. This heartwarming rescue highlights the commitment of first responders to all creatures in need.
Authorities are reminding the public to be mindful of their waste disposal, as incidents like this can pose serious risks to wildlife. Paramedics are often called to assist in unusual situations, but this particular rescue stands out for its emotional impact.
As animal welfare continues to be a pressing issue, stories like Campbell’s serve as a reminder of the importance of compassion towards all living beings. The Little Rock Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services urges anyone who encounters animals in distress to reach out for help.
