Byron Bay Bowlers Shine in Northern Rivers Finals Showdown

BREAKING NEWS: Lawn bowlers from Club Byron in Byron Bay have made a significant impact at the Northern Rivers State Finals, held this past weekend at Cherry Street Bowls in Ballina. The competition showcased fierce talent, with local bowlers demonstrating their skills against some of the best in the region.

In a thrilling Saturday showdown, Pat Bigg and Kym Quinnel faced tough opponents in the women’s singles. Kym Quinnel advanced to the finals on Sunday, narrowly losing to Susan Goode from Cabarita. This hard-fought match has put Quinnel in the spotlight, highlighting her determination and skill on the green.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, father and son duo Paul and Louis Clark represented Club Byron with pride. Louis Clark battled his way to the final, where he faced Paul Gray from Maclean. Despite a valiant effort, Clark fell short against the experienced Gray, who claimed victory.

In the men’s state pairs final, Club Byron’s greenkeeper team of Troy Makin and Michael Anderson fought hard but ultimately finished as runners-up, losing a close game to the East Lismore team of Josh McDonnell and Brian Eichorn.

This weekend’s competition follows a recent trip to Nowra, where 14 bowlers from Byron Bay competed in the Grade 2 State Pennant finals. Although they did not bring home trophies, their performance against 15 other top clubs from across the state was commendable, earning respect for Club Byron.

The achievements of Club Byron’s bowlers underscore the dedication of its players and the strong support from the community, which includes senior players, staff, and volunteers. This spirit of camaraderie is vital for a relatively small club, making their accomplishments even more impressive.

As the community celebrates these achievements, Club Byron encourages everyone to join their friendly atmosphere for both social and competitive bowling. With such a talented roster, the club is poised for continued success in future competitions.

Stay tuned for more updates as Club Byron continues to compete and represent Byron Bay on the regional stage!
