Urgent Rescues Underway as Floodwaters Trap Drivers in Perth

People trapped in cars and homes flooded amid heavy rainfall

Heavy rainfall has triggered severe flooding across Perth, with urgent rescues underway as floodwaters trap individuals in their vehicles and homes. This morning, around 10:30 AM, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) responded to a critical situation in Claremont, where two drivers became stranded at a railway underpass.

A DFES spokesperson confirmed that one woman has been successfully rescued from her car, while firefighters are currently working to free another driver. Fortunately, neither of the trapped individuals has sustained injuries.

In another incident, the DFES is mobilizing teams in Mandurah, where three homes on Beam Road have been inundated with water. The ongoing deluge has led the State Emergency Services (SES) to respond to 25 emergency calls across Western Australia overnight.

Perth experienced relentless rain throughout Saturday morning as a cold front swept through the region. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that a second, more intense cold front is expected to arrive on Sunday, bringing with it damaging winds and thunderstorms, heightening the risk of further flooding.

As residents brace for another wave of severe weather, officials urge everyone to exercise caution and stay updated on emergency services announcements.

Stay tuned for more urgent updates as rescuers continue their life-saving efforts and authorities prepare for the upcoming storm.
