Apple TV+ Revives Classic Film The Holiday as Limited Series

Apple TV+ has announced a new limited series based on the beloved 2006 romantic comedy, The Holiday. This fresh take on the classic film is set to bring new characters and storylines while retaining the original’s charm, appealing to fans who are eager for holiday-themed content.

The series follows the familiar premise of two individuals—one American and one British—who escape their relationship troubles by swapping homes for the festive season. According to Deadline, viewers can expect the same whimsical elements of culture shock and holiday chaos that made the original film a hit. While the premise remains, the series will introduce a completely new cast, with no appearances from original stars such as Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, or Jude Law.

Krissie Ducker, known for her work on Killing Eve, is tasked with writing the script. Her involvement raises curiosity about how the series will blend holiday sentiments with potentially darker themes. Rob Delaney, recognized for his role in Catastrophe, is serving as a consultant, promising a sharp wit and engaging dialogue throughout the episodes.

Production Details and Anticipated Release

Production will be managed by Left Bank Pictures, a notable company in the television industry. Notably absent from this project is Nancy Meyers, the original film’s director, which adds an unexpected twist to the series’ development. As the production team ramps up, casting is currently underway, with Apple TV+ searching for well-known actors to join the ensemble.

The original The Holiday was not only a charming romantic comedy but also a significant box office success, grossing over $200 million worldwide. Nearly two decades later, it remains a go-to film for those seeking festive escapism through the concept of a house swap.

As the festive season approaches, this new series aims to deliver a fresh mix of love, heartbreak, and festive mishaps. Fans of the original film can look forward to a new interpretation that retains the essence of holiday magic, even without the original stars. The anticipation for this series is already building, offering viewers a chance to dive back into a world of holiday cheer and unexpected romance.
