Macedon Ranges Council Mourns Sudden Loss of Councillor Walker

BREAKING: The Macedon Ranges Council is in mourning following the unexpected death of Councillor Christine Walker. This tragic news was confirmed by Mayor Dom Bonano on Saturday morning, leaving the community in shock.

Mayor Bonano stated, “I have spoken with Christine’s husband Andrew and offered our deepest condolences and any support the family may need through this incredibly difficult time.” He expressed that the council is grappling with the loss, highlighting Walker’s unique warmth, humor, and invaluable insights drawn from her experience as a market researcher.

“Vale Christine – you will be sorely missed and our thoughts and prayers are with Andrew, daughter Isobel, and the wider Walker family,” Bonano added.

Councillor Walker was first elected in November 2023 during a countback election to fill a vacancy and was re-elected for a four-year term in the October 2024 council elections, representing South Ward.

Chief Executive Bernie O’Sullivan also addressed the shocking news, stating that it has deeply affected council staff, especially those who worked closely with her. “Our councillors become family in many ways – we are feeling this sudden loss deeply, and will do for a long time,” he remarked.

O’Sullivan praised Walker’s community-driven approach and her readiness to adapt quickly despite coming into her role later than others. “Her attention to detail and warmth were respected by all those around her,” he noted.

The Macedon Ranges Council is set to consult with the Victorian Electoral Commission regarding the process for filling the vacancy in South Ward. As the community comes to terms with this devastating loss, the council’s commitment to honor Walker’s legacy remains strong.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops. The emotional impact of Christine Walker’s passing resonates deeply within the community, making it a pivotal moment for many.
