URGENT UPDATE: Fiona Simson has been named the keynote speaker for the highly anticipated 2025 National Landcare Conference, set to take place from September 21 to September 24, 2025, at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. This biennial event will unite over 500 delegates from across Australia, including landcare volunteers, farmers, and indigenous representatives, to discuss vital issues around sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
The conference opens with Simson, the former chair of the National Farmers Federation and current Oceania representative of the World Farmers’ Organisation. Her insights are expected to set a compelling tone for the event, which focuses on pressing topics such as nature repair, biodiversity restoration, and the role of First Nations cultural knowledge in landcare practices.
“Landcare is crucial for our environment and community,” said Costa Georgiadis, the beloved host of Gardening Australia, who returns as master of ceremonies. “This conference is a powerful opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to connect, share stories, and take action.”
This year’s program features more than 100 speakers and a lineup of engaging activities, including panel discussions, immersive field trips, and the inaugural Landcare Short Film Festival. A significant highlight will be the First Nations Landcare Gathering and the NextGen Landcare Summit, both scheduled for the opening day.
The 2025 National Landcare Awards Gala Dinner on the evening of September 23 will celebrate over 69 finalists who have made substantial contributions to landcare initiatives across the nation.
With the support of major sponsors including the City of Gold Coast and the federal government, this dynamic conference aims to foster collaboration between academics, practitioners, and indigenous leaders, pushing the agenda for sustainable land management and environmental responsibility.
