Wodonga Saints Celebrate First Win of 2024 with Joyful Tears

BREAKING: The Wodonga Saints’ netball team has erupted in joy after securing their first victory of the 2024 season, defeating Beechworth. The win, marked by emotional tears of excitement, signifies a major turning point for the team, who had not tasted victory since round eight.

Just moments ago, the Saints celebrated their second consecutive win, triumphing over Rutherglen by a solid margin of seven goals. This back-to-back success follows an earlier win that ended a two-year drought for the team, igniting a wave of enthusiasm among players and supporters alike.

“To finally achieve those wins is phenomenal, and they’re all on a real high right now,”

said Jen Feltrin, the Saints’ A-grade assistant coach. She noted that emotions ran high after the game against Beechworth, with several players shedding tears of joy.

The Saints are showcasing remarkable talent, with Lily Barry among several players making their debut in A-grade. The team is notably youthful, with the oldest player just 21 years old. Feltrin praised head coach Taylor Morey for instilling a strong mentality within the squad, crucial for their recent successes.

“We’ve certainly watched the development, not so much the netball skills, because that was always there, but just having more strength in their mentality,”

Feltrin added. She emphasized that the team has grown in maturity, learning to overcome early-season challenges and setbacks.

As the season progresses, the Saints are gearing up for a formidable challenge ahead against the powerhouse Kiewa Hawks. Feltrin acknowledged the difficulty of the match, stating,

“Kiewa is an absolute powerhouse, so we know it’s going to be a challenging one.”

However, she expressed confidence in her team’s spirit, as they ride the high of their recent victories.

The Saints will enter this crucial match with nothing to lose, aiming to leverage their newfound confidence and determination. Fans are eager to see if this momentum can propel them further as they approach the final round of the Tallangatta and District home and away season.

This latest success not only signifies a pivotal moment for the Wodonga Saints but also highlights the importance of resilience and growth in sports. With their spirits soaring, the team is ready to take on whatever challenges lie ahead.
