The film will be directed by Josephine Decker, known for her work on the 2020 biopic about horror writer Shirley Jackson, and the script will be penned by Stacey Gregg, who has written for television series including Mary and George and The Letter for the King.
The production is being handled by See-Saw Films, renowned for its successful titles such as The King’s Speech and The Power of the Dog. Other production partners include Nine Daughters, known for films like Lady Macbeth, and ie:entertainment, which served as the executive producer for Nothing Compares.
O’Connor’s career was marked by significant achievements and controversy. She gained worldwide fame with her rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U in 1990, which became a massive hit. Throughout her life, she was an outspoken advocate for various social issues, which often placed her at the center of public attention. Notably, in 1992, she infamously tore up a photograph of the Pope during a live television broadcast, and in 1999, she was ordained as a priest by an independent Catholic group. In 2018, O’Connor converted to Islam, further illustrating her complex and multifaceted life.
