Dr. Suji Sanjeevan Leads New Small Business Council in Victoria

URGENT UPDATE: Dr. Suji Sanjeevan has been appointed chair of Victoria’s newly re-established Small Business Ministerial Council, a move aimed at amplifying the voices of small businesses across the state. The announcement was made by the state government on August 12, marking a significant step towards better representation for the small business sector in key decision-making processes.

The council, reinstated by the government, includes six other influential members who will work alongside Dr. Sanjeevan to address critical issues impacting small businesses. This initiative comes in response to calls for stronger advocacy and support in a sector that is vital to Victoria’s economy.

Dr. Sanjeevan, originally from the UK, is the founder of BrandScent, a scent marketing company based in Wyndham, and the boutique candle maker Light and Glo Designs. Her diverse business experience positions her well to lead this council effectively.

Joining her on the council are:
– Dr. Michael Akindeju, principal engineer at MKPro Engineering
Susan Benedyka, founder and managing director of The Regional Development Company
Niti Bhargava, founder and principal broker of GB Financials
John Burgess, chief executive of Little Rocket and director of First Nations Network
Orianna Edmonds, dairy farmer and founder of Naturally Goat
Claire Elkin, founder of Engineering Equilibrium

Natalie Suleyman, Minister for Small Business and Employment, expressed her enthusiasm for the newly formed council, stating, “Having an expert council representing our small businesses is yet another way we are strengthening a sector that contributes so much to Victoria.” She emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring small businesses continue to grow and thrive.

This appointment comes at a critical time when small businesses are recovering from the impacts of economic challenges. The council aims to provide essential insights and recommendations to the government, ensuring the needs of small businesses are prioritized in policymaking.

As the council begins its work, stakeholders are encouraged to follow the developments closely. The immediate focus will be on addressing pressing concerns such as financial support, regulatory challenges, and opportunities for growth.

With Dr. Sanjeevan at the helm, there is hope that small businesses in Victoria will not only be heard but will also receive the support they need to prosper. The community eagerly anticipates the council’s first initiatives and the tangible benefits they will bring to the local economy.
