A new Caribbean dining option, Taste of the Islands, will open in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, bringing a vibrant mix of Caribbean flavors to the community. Owned by Sonia and Preston Diedrick, the restaurant will occupy the former site of the Celt Irish Pub, located at 2700 N. Hwy 17, Suite 120. The transition was facilitated by restaurant broker Mike Santos of The Commonwealth Company.
The new location features approximately 2,993 square feet of dining space and is expected to provide a range of Caribbean-inspired dishes that have already attracted a loyal customer base at their current establishment in West Ashley, located at 630 Skylark Drive. This existing venue has been serving up an array of dishes that highlight the diverse flavors of the Caribbean.
Taste of the Islands offers a variety of appetizers, including saltfish and conch fritters, calamari, and wings paired with sauces like jerk and honey garlic. Diners can also enjoy wraps, quesadillas, and loaded cheese fries to start their meal.
Signature Dishes and Dining Experience
Among the restaurant’s signature offerings are hearty selections such as beef oxtail, brown stewed meats, and curried goat. Seafood enthusiasts can indulge in dishes like red snapper and coconut-crusted shrimp. For lunch, the menu features a selection of specials and sandwiches, including tacos, burgers, rice bowls, and jerk chicken sandwiches. There are also vegetarian options available, such as veggie plates, curried tofu, and salads.
Desserts play an important role in the menu, showcasing Caribbean favorites such as sweet potato pie, rum cake, and bread pudding, along with Jamaican patties. According to their website, “Taste of the Islands features authentic cuisine from around the Caribbean, using the freshest ingredients to create what promises an unforgettable culinary experience.”
While the exact operating hours for the new Mount Pleasant location have yet to be confirmed, the West Ashley restaurant currently operates daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.. What Now Charleston has reached out to Taste of the Islands for further details regarding the new opening, but has not yet received a response. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
