Kid City USA Enterprises, Inc., a prominent provider of early childhood education and childcare services, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The filing, submitted on January 2, 2026, follows a series of abrupt closures across various states, including Florida and Lexington, raising concerns about the company’s financial stability.
Details of the Bankruptcy Filing
The Daytona Beach-based company, operational for 25 years and managing over 140 locations across 11 states, turned to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida for relief. Attorney Byron Wright, III of Bruner Wright, P.A. is representing the firm, while Judge Jason A. Burgess oversees the case.
This bankruptcy follows reports of multiple closures within the past year. Notably, a facility in Leo was shut down in late November 2025, leaving employees without pay. Similar closures occurred in Lexington and other locations, with corporate officials citing “financial strain” as the primary reason for the shutdowns.
Implications for Employees and Operations
As part of the Chapter 11 proceedings, Kid City USA Enterprises, Inc. has been authorized to continue its operations while restructuring efforts are underway. The company’s bankruptcy filing documents reveal that it paid $1,738 at the time of submission. The court has mandated that the company provide additional documentation, including a list of its 20 largest unsecured creditors, by May 4, 2026.
The estimated assets and liabilities both fall within the range of $1,000,001 to $10 million, indicating a significant financial burden. Currently, the company owes between 100 and 199 creditors, with plans to distribute available funds to these unsecured creditors.
Kid City USA Enterprises, Inc. operates a network of daycare, preschool, and after-school programs, catering to children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. Its locations are predominantly found in Florida, but the company also has facilities in states such as Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Nevada, Missouri, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee.
In addition to its own filing, two affiliates of Kid City USA Enterprises, Inc.—9034 Centennial CO Inc. and Another Spare Hive, Inc.—also filed for Chapter 11 protection on November 17, 2025. This highlights an ongoing struggle within the company’s broader operations.
The future of Kid City USA Enterprises, Inc. hinges on its ability to navigate the bankruptcy process effectively. The company must meet court requirements and develop a feasible reorganization plan within the designated timeframe. The outcome of these proceedings will determine whether it can stabilize its operations or face further restructuring challenges.
